Exercise 1: User Journey Maps

In Week 2, we had our first lecture, which included a brief about the introduction to experience design. After the lecture, we were tasked with developing a User Journey Map that need to mention about the gain points, pain points, and solutions within our selected topic. The topic our group decided to work on is the "Sunway Lagoon User Journey Map".

Fig 1.1, Initial User Journey map

This user journey map outlines a typical visit to Sunway lagoon, from parking to heading home. While there are enjoyable moments like playing in the facilities.  To ease these pain points, suggestions like AR navigation, live parking updates, and digital menus, These ideas aim to make the sunway lagoon experience smoother, quicker, and more enjoyable overall.

After considering Mr. Razif's suggestion, I revised the User Journey Map to align with the template he provided, clearly organizing the gain points, pain points, and solutions for better clarity and understanding.

Exercise 2: AR Experience Prototype

In Week 3, we were tasked with creating an AR experience prototype based on a topic of our choice. For for this exercise: We choose "Gym" experience.

Fig 1.3, AR Experience Prototype in Gym room

Our idea is to
combining a mobile app and AR smart glasses to help users navigate gym workouts with ease and confidence and it will enhance the gym experience using Augmented Reality (AR) through a range of interactive and practical features. This prototype showcases four key functions:

  • Real-Time Pose Tracking: AI detects body movement using skeletal tracking Red alerts for incorrect form Voice feedback like “Adjust your stance”.
  • Rep & Set Tracker Automatic rep counting using motion detection Set completion indicators with rest timers Pace/tempo guidance through animated rings or arrows.
  • Virtual Personal Trainer AI avatar appears to demonstrate proper form Voice prompts for motivation and correction Personalized workout suggestions based on past performance.

Exercise 3: Marker-Based AR Experience

During the tutorial class, Mr. Razif instructed us how to install Vuforia Engine package into Unity. After do download and setup, I created a databased  using the Vuforia target Manager and add a image I get online. Mr. Razif got special advice need to choose image more than 3 star will be more easy to get recognize by the camera.

Fig 1.4, 3D Object on Image Target

To activate a 3D object, the main is after create an object(eg. a cube) to place it as a child of the Image Target, which functions as a marker to activate the object.

Same file but another week, Mr. Razif instructed us how to doing button on the AR camera and animation for an object.

It's pretty fun to learn about how to add function for object or creating button to control animation.

Preliminary Research & Experimentation

In this task, I need to conduct research and exploration of trending AR experiences across various industries. This will let me understand their key features, limitations, and overall user impact. These findings will guide me in making  decisions on which AR technologies or features to proceed with in my final project.

1. IKEA Place – AR Virtual Furniture Placement

Fig 2.1, Say Hej to IKEA Place[Youtube]
Purpose
The main purpose of IKEA Place is to help users make confident, informed decisions when furnishing their homes.

Limitation
It focuses mainly on furniture visualization, not full interior design features like wall paint or decor integration.

Inspiration
  • Users with no design background can now explore layouts creatively
  • Reduces unnecessary returns and waste by helping users choose the right item the first time.

Purpose
Player can Physically explore their environment to find and catch Pokémon, and interact with landmarks (PokéStops, Gyms) tied to real-world locations.

Project Ideation

In this task, we are required to propose three potential ideas for our project, each accompanied by a clear problem statement and a proposed solution. These ideas should address real user needs or challenges and demonstrate how AR can be applied meaningfully. To help communicate and visualize each concept more effectively, mock visuals or sketches.

Feedbacks

Week 02:
Specific Feedback:
  • AR Image Recognition Showcase is pretty normal, if you want to do this, you can try things got any special features you can add in to make it more fun or not.
  • Music box idea is pretty good, but other than playing music, you can try make it like user can play different music in different kind of colour layer, or maybe add some feature like a stage effect
  • AR pet idea is also good, but you need to try make it not so boring, or make like a game

Reflections

The weekly exercise about Vuforia and Unity is pretty new and interesting for me. The step-by-step practice made it easy to get the hang of how to create AR experiences using image targets and 3D models. other than that also learn a bit some simple animation during the exercise part. Although this is the basic how to make it, but it still amaze me when I done it for my first time.

Doing research about AR experience is pretty hard for me, because my knowledge about AR is too less, i don't really know how much I can do in and can I done in this semester if I choose a pretty hard topic to go on. I got some idea like making a game for AR like Pokemon go, but I afraid it too hard for me, So I try to going on somethings I pretty interest in which is about music, and trying to make virtual pet which let's me remind my childhood game talking tom.

By doing more research and know more about some of the basic idea about unity and Vuforia., it really help me to see what AR can do in daily life and how it applied in everyday life. Overall i think these task and exercise really make me know more about AR and Unity and can think more idea in thinking about how it help to user.
