Task 1: Proposal Development
For the requirement, we need to work as groups in presenting an innovative concept that introduces unique social, cultural and/or economic value to the intended target audience within your chosen field of specialization. We also need to conduct research on current technology and design trends that influences and benchmarks our area of specialization. Case studies with analysis reports on product/service functionality and effectiveness, technical innovations and challenges, aesthetics and design appreciation are required to support your new project proposal. The project must address the ‘gap’ where you have discovered and realized ideas and solutions that creates and captures value in a novel way.
For our task requirement:
- Project title, group name, timeline, project development plan.
- Identify problem/issue, project aim and objectives, targeted users.
- How Might We Statement
- Conduct User Research - prepare interview guide/questions
- Each team member must interview at least 3 targeted users (proof of individual work)
- Synthesize interview data using Affinity Diagram
Fig 1.2, Initial idea
For the first week we basically brainstorming and discuss about our topic and we come out with few idea which is Digital Struggles for the Elderly, Women’s Safety Concerns, and Everyday Knowledge Gaps.
After the lecturer brief what we gonna do in the future week we start having consultation. During the consultation we find out that all of our idea is not getting acceptable unless we having more surprising idea based on the topic.
Fig 1.3, Second Initial Idea
After getting the feedback, we do some research and brainstorming in the class. Then we decided our topic will be “Habit development & self-discipline management”. Then we start think about our group name and creating interview question based on our topic

3 Interviews (Personal work):
All Three Interview Google doc: Google Doc
Fig 1.5, Three Interview (Summary)
Third week was an online consultation on Teams meeting, we have only competed the interviews individually and pasted in Figjam board. Upon receiving the feedback from Dr Chui Yin.
After the feedback, our group continued the task based on the feedback received, created the affinity diagram and user personas based on the summarization of the interviews. We added the weekly progress at the timeline section and further refined the information and design in FigJam board to ensure tidy-ness before submitting.
Case Study:
After having all point at FigJam, we transfer all the point into Google slide as our Presentation Slide for Submission.

Task 2: Design Proposition
We need to refine the user journey map to build a stronger and clearer visualization that aligns with our user personas. Right now, our personas feel too surface-level, and our supervisor suggested refining them with more depth. Each persona should reflect their unique journey in forming (or not forming) a habit:
Persona 1: Already formed a new habit – Their journey should highlight what motivated them to start, the challenges they overcame, and what keeps them consistent.
Persona 2: Still trying to form a habit but lacks motivation – Their journey should show where they struggle, what factors influence their inconsistency, and what might help them stay on track.
Persona 3: Not interested in forming a habit – Their journey should explore why they have no motivation, what barriers exist, and whether anything could change their mindset.

So, we proceeded to refine the user personas and complete the user journey maps for each and prepared to created user journey map.
We show the user persona and user journey map which been modified by us.

Fig 3.2, Individual Core feature
After refining our features by merging similar ones and removing unnecessary elements, we finalized the core features. To ensure an intuitive structure, we conducted a card sorting exercise, where three participants categorized the features without predefined labels. To further validate our organization, we asked user personas to complete the same exercise, ensuring the categorization aligned with user expectations. Using these insights, we created the Information Architecture Map, defining four main pages which is Home, Statistics, Community and User Profile.
After that we finalize the part together:

After that we start building our Information architecture maps, User flow chart and decided the UI Kit for our wireframe.

We then collaborated on finding visual references and discussed our UI Toolkit.
- Primary Color: Purple (symbolizing growth)
- Secondary Colors: Yellow & Orange (add positivity and warmth)
- Typography & Icons: Montserrat for a modern, readable look
- Icons: rounded to add a cute and friendly touch, making habit tracking fun and engaging.

Feedbacks
Week 1:
Specific Feedback: - Digital Struggles for the Elderly : Elderly problem is too common like either teaching them how to not getting scam or teach them how to use phone. unless you going more specific.
- Women’s Safety Concerns : For Woman concern is a good topic to start, but there is only a problem like what kind of safety? Domestic violence? molestation? if you gonna do about this topic, you need to make sure you guys find these kind of people to go interview
- Everyday Knowledge Gaps: Why they need to use your knowledge gaps when they can google search or Chatgpt the question and get answer immediately? Unless you going in specific gaps for example like water heater for blind people.
Week 2:
Specific Feedback:- Modern young generation are exposed to a lot of information every day: It’s not wrong to using social media
- Habit development & self-discipline management: Is a good start if going with this idea, for more information, maybe you guys can try looking at some of the book references like “Indistractable” and “Hooked” by Nir Eyal’s.
- Social Anxiety & Oral Expression: For Social anxiety is a good topic but there is only a problem which is how you know the person having social anxiety? So When you doing interview, you need to find people with society anxiety, and how you make sure you can find them and they will talk with you.
- Financial Management & Budget Control: Too common and hard to do not really suggest to do
- Interview Question: All approved, it's good question, but I don’t really think for this semester need solution, but you guys can take like a sample and idea. And remember need to do the interview each for 3 interview, need to do a summary about it.
Week 3:
Specific Feedback:
- Dr Chui Yin showed us an example where we should list out the points by grouping and summarised them into categories of the interviewee’s background, habits, challenges faced, etc. We also mentioned about conducting case studies for the task and she said its great to do that.
Week 4:
Specific Feedback:
1. User statistics:
- Why we target university students/zen z . Understand the reason.
- Find why issues happen- Why procrastination happens in these age? Why do have issues like this?
- Why lack of motivation? (e.g. too much entertainment, too much distraction, lack of money, etc.)
2. Look back to interview target users:
- Problem statement: Related to zen z, there are two groups of people: -already motivated to form a new habit -struggling to form a new habit
3. Refine User personas (given example)
- 1st: already formed a new habit
- 2nd: still trying to form a habit but lacks motivation
- 3rd: not interested to form a new habit
Week 5:
Specific Feedback:
1. User journey Map: - Put the first two line as the user needs, and put the user persona below which going under the name in journey map
- For the second user which is Sean, is a good work can be example for the rest.
- Bring awareness which cause to this person.[what action we need to do to aware him] for opportunities
- We need channel(for example like what the hobby he do, the social media he always use)
- What's is the incentive to let the person stay motivate
- For User 3 which is Chloe, Action change to help plan to study in the future and not focus on habit
Week 6:
Specific Feedback:
- Add on some emotional valuable in the tracking( it can make engaging which is good example for duolingo)
- new a link for website, for cite
- make the information architecture(can be card sorting)
- make colour wheel based on what we gonna follow
- taking the user persona idea(? Help us to done the information archicture and can ask some of our interview to provide idea [optional]
Week 7:
Specific Feedback:
- For presentation we need appendix for Figjam board
- The features for information architecture map, card sorting , and user flow chart is all good, need to try put all into the slide.
- Title make it big, sub title make it small and put date
- Make font bigger a bit
- highlight main point
- For interview question make a conduct inside the view for user research
- Target user make as summary like number of people we ask
- We don't need to show our research in presentation
- ONE slide not more than 12 second
After Presentation
- There is not much question for the Slide
- The only problem might be the wireframe, for a habit app, the habit might not be the the one which the user need, so try to add some selection and make the add button be more conspicuous.
Reflections
Experiences
During the first week all of us a bit shy for our first met, so we didn't talk much in group chat just discussing during the class about what to do and mostly is we decide what need to be done by our own. For the first two week its quite hard on brainstorming because we need to decided a topic which don't have answer at all. But we get to decided it after some group discussion and consultation and do about our interview question. I still don't like Interview especially it's a face to face interview due to I am a bit don't like communicating and nervous to talk with people. But it's always be better to do the interview and improve my communication skill. Overall, i would like to say the project is pretty fun and so grateful for my groupmate, Emily, Suet Yee and Mei Hui. they're incredibly reliable, and their contribution are consistently insightful. their idea and groupwork discussion has been valuable to our project, plus they're just pleasure and chill to work with!
Observation
Throughout the process, i learn a lots about how to do a great research and mindset about habit by reading book suggestion by Dr Wong Chui Yin which is, Indistractable by Nir Eyal and another book suggest by my groupmate Mei Hui, Which is, Atomic Habit By James Clear pretty useful for our topic and get a lots of useful mindset and information. The feedback we received during the project is pretty useful and guide us, especially when we indecision and uncertainty for our research and decision.
Finding
i find out that it's pretty challenge on doing research especially when there is no an correct answer or path which lead to the answer. i just can doing more research to speculate and find the answer that is closest to what we need. Other than that's, time managing always important in a group project, but it taught me the important of adaptability and perseverance. Overall I pretty happy in what we have done for now, and pretty excited to look forward to how this project can do in the next phrase.
