Proposal

This is a long-term project until the end of the semester. So I will separate the progress into proposal, field study, and visual design. First, before everything starts, we need to decide on a sensitive culture as our theme. After we decided on our theme, we needed to prepare a minimum of 3 Primary ideas or sketches based on our theme.

Planning:
First, we have quite a lot of ideas such as pop culture, punk culture, gaming culture, and more. but mostly get declined because of the final production problem and some of the ideas are too sensitive to do. So after some intense discussions, we all agree on Modesty as our main topic. After the theme had been chosen, we all agreed each of us needed to do research about modesty and prepare an idea/sketch for the final product.

Idea:
For my idea, I am planning to create a poster about the difference between modesty people and non-modesty. Using strong contrasts between these two to let everyone in this society have their own ideas to decide everything about themselves.

After we gather all the ideas/sketches from other group members, we make a slide and presentation.

Field Study

So, After we get our proposal, we need to start our second part for our theme which is a field study. After discussing with other group members, we decided few ways for our data collection which are an Online Survey, Physical interview, and field trip study.

1. Online Survey:
So we create an online survey.

Below here are the responses we get:

2. Physical Interview:

For the physical Interview, we have to ask some similar questions from our online survey. and below is the summary of all the interviews. ( the recording can be listening in the final slide)

3. Field trip study:
For the field trip, we decided to take different cultural modesty clothes from the general store. However after asking for feedback from the lecturer. She suggests we change our path not just taking clothing but also people's clothing in different areas.

Visual Design

For our final idea, we had totally no idea which plan should we follow, so we went to ask the lecturer for some opinion. After discussion, She suggested we make a board game or make a Poster Photography lookbook.

So after discussing it with my groupmate, we found out we have some issues in creating rules for board games. So we decided to work on a lookbook.

Photoshoot:
After planning what we gonna shoot for, we start planning about the place we gonna shoot for. At first, we plan to shoot in the cafe which can have many ideas to take pictures. Then we found a place named BookXcess RexKL which has a warm kind of library feel. After everything was decided, we started looking for models, and in the last, I was the male model and the female model was a friend of a group member(Vincent).

After we get everything, we start creating our lookbook. After choosing the pictures for the lookbook, I did the edit for the pictures to make them picture more contrast and go on warm colors. After that, we start creating the lookbook.

Feedback

Week 5: The Introduction could be more in-depth instead of just talking about comment stuff. If next time do data collection, the online questions should be different from the physical interview. But the data has been collected so it is fine. But instead of looking into what stores selling, maybe should look more about modesty wear in public will be better.

Week 6: The lecture comments either we go on modesty boardgame or try to make a photograph lookbook.

Reflections

Experience:
Well, for the first time in class for intercultural design I am very blurred about what to do because there is no past year example so everything has to be discovered by me. I am not sure what we are doing for, research on culture, or how sensitive a culture be. The thing I didn't expect is this to be a group project till the end of the semester.

When it comes to task 1, I would like to say everyone is new and shy about sharing ideas but in the end, this task ended pretty smoothly. Task 2 was quite a suffer for me, I thought We just doing data collection online, and I didn't expect we needed to do it physically. As an introvert, it's a tough challenge for me to do physical interviews with other people. But in the end, things end well in the end too. It's still hard for me to do communication. Task 3, It's pretty fun, I get to be a model for our lookbook and get a chance to learn how to edit pictures and create a lookbook. Being a model is fun but it's very tiring. All the hard work is worth it when I see the finished product. For real, I didn't expect the lookbook can be so nice in the end.

Observation:
It's always very interesting to observe other's group ideas. I can see what kind of idea they are working on and their idea is always so wonderful. , I quite like ideas from people who get to go to Japan, their data collection and photographs show up very nicely. I get to learn so much by looking at their idea, slides, and presentations.

Findings:
I found out that I have a bit of a sense of fashion during task 3 and I found out it's quite interesting to work as a model, and I think I will keep going on on it.
